August 2005

Collegiate Extension Update - Gamma Phi Beta will join seven other sororities at Emory University in Atlanta to form a colony September 20-25, 2005. Touted the 'Ivy League of the South,' Emory is home to 11,000 students working in the nine major academic divisions, numerous centers for advanced study, and a host of prominent affiliated institutions. In addition to its status as a top school, Emory offers one of the most desirable campus lifestyles among today's universities. The university is working to create a new sorority village for the Greek women's organizations to be re-located to Fraternity Row.

New Extension Opportunity - In January of 2006, Gamma Phi Beta will become part of a brand-new Greek system at The University of Texas at Tyler. Tyler is the easternmost academic component of the renowned University of Texas system. We will join Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Gamma as the first sororities; three fraternities are also colonizing. Mindy Sutton (Southern Methodist), Director of Student Development at Tyler, will be instrumental in orienting this new group of sororities. Mindy traveled in 1997-98 as the first Foundation CLC.

If you know of any unaffiliated women at either of these universities, please pass on their names to Jana Nobles, Sorority Director -- Collegiate Extension at jnobles7@aol.com.
