August 2005
The development of emerging leaders among our collegiate members is a critical priority for Gamma Phi Beta. Every year the Sorority has young members who would benefit greatly from leadership training, but who lack the sufficient funds to participate. In 2005, the Sorority selected 22 collegians to attend The LeaderShape Institute® at the University of Illinois, primarily funded by the Gamma Phi Beta Foundation - more than doubling our attendees the previous year. Our goal is to be able to provide the LeaderShape experience for a representative from every collegiate chapter every year.

In addition to interactive and energizing experiences that build leadership skills, attendees come away with
vision, relationships and results. Here is what the excitement is all about:

"I developed a vision that would encourage my chapter to become even better; a vision where every sister would be involved and a chapter where we were truly a community, not just a sorority." Katherine Searing (Chapman)

"Being a leader does not mean that you have to know or do everything. It is okay to trust others to help you. Diversity means nothing without inclusion." Megan Salmi (Southeast Missouri State)

Bonnie Payne, Foundation Executive Director, participated as a faculty member at a June LeaderShape session. Four Gamma Phi Betas were among the 60 students representing fraternities, sororities, student government, and corporate interns. In August, Bonnie accepted an invitation to join the board of The LeaderShape Institute.
