Lessons
Learned on the Journey

Exercise
has been a regular part of my daily routine for many years.
My smug complacency regarding this routine was shaken last
year during a physical exam. I was challenged to move out
of my comfort zone by increasing the diversity as well as
intensity of my routine. What they neglected to tell me was
that this new exercise routine required discipline and pain.
Spiritually, I have found the same to be true. Smug complacency and pride can
creep into my relationship with God. Fortunately, there are people in my life
with the courage to challenge me to step out of my spiritual comfort zone. However,
these people often neglect to tell me of the discipline and pain required to
journey more deeply with God.
The path of discipleship with Christ is filled with the denial of my own self-interest
and desires and total commitment to do the will of God - way out of my comfort
zone!

"If
anyone would come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross and follow me." (Mark
8:34) |

A deeper,
richer, and more meaningful relationship with God occurs outside
our comfort zones...will you join me there? Be assured that
God, The Comforter, promises to be with us outside our comfort
zone. (2 Cor. 1:3- 4)
