Sometimes my self-image teeters between positive and negative, depending on the kind of feedback I receive. Amazingly after all these years my self-worth often depends upon my feelings. How could this be? I have long understood that I am created in the image of God which should be the underpinning of my self-worth, "In the image of God he created him, male and female he created them."
(Genesis 1:26 NIV) Whenever my identity lies in any place other than God, I am left vulnerable to struggle and discouragement. However, when I am reminded “WHY I was created”, I am even more able to stand above my circumstances with confidence - not in myself but in Christ. Paul tells us, "All things were created by Him and for Him." (Colossians 1:16 NIV) Knowing that I was created FOR Him gives my life infinite meaning, purpose and value. My life does not belong to me, but to Him - for His purposes. This week let us go into the world clothed in confidence and immeasurable worth because our life exists for the One we follow. |
