Church Spending on Social Assistance
In a survey of social services that churches provide for their communities, 43% of American congregations spend less than 10% of their budgets on social services in their community, while 12% spend more than 30%.
Only 7.1% of U.S. congregations receive government grants to provide social services. For the small percentage of churches that provide services via an incorporated nonprofit organization, the most common 501(c) 3 programs were housing development, homeless shelter, and health care.
