The authors of A Multi-site Church Roadtrip and The Multi-site Church Revolution, Geoff Surratt, Greg Ligon and Warren Bird, share lessons which both multi-site and single-site church leaders can appreciate.
What's the overall message of this book?
We show the amazing diversity of how churches are launching and using multi-site -- the idea of being one church in more than one location. We illustrate ways the movement continues to rapidly expand. We affirm that most church are motivated by evangelism in why they go multi-site.
| We also try to deal objectively with some of the objections to multi-site that people have raised. We even take a frank look at some of the reasons certain multi-site efforts have failed. |

Did you actually go to each church profiled in your "roadtrip"?
We couldn't get anyone to fly us to Nepal, Peru, or some of the other countries in our "International Campus" chapter. But for the church in Hawaii, we thought it was so important that two of us should go, each bringing our wife as well.
Seriously, between the three of us we visited and did interviews in over a dozen leading multi-site churches. We try to present our experiences in a way that gives readers a first-hand insider's look.
A Multi-site Church Roadtrip is the second book you've written, collectively, on multi-site churches. Why another book?
The content of the first book is still current, so we did not want to replace it. In fact, almost everything in A Multi-site Church Roadtrip is new. This book looks inside a bunch of very specific multi-site issues and introduces a lot of churches not mentioned in the first book.
We cover multi-site churches that formed by merger, that sponsor. . . |

Volunteering Through Religious Groups |
According to a report released in July by Volunteering in America, 22.2 million volunteers (35.9% of the total 61.8 million volunteers in the United States) served with or through a religious organization in 2008. Volunteers who served through faith-based organizations were more likely to continue serving year after year (70%) than volunteers of any other type of organization.
People Worldwide Are More Charitable if They Attend Religious Services |
A survey by Gallup reveals that adherents of all the major world religions who attend religious services have higher rates of generosity than people who did not attend services. The survey used three measures of generosity: donating money to a charity, volunteering, and helping a stranger. For all three measures of generosity, those who attended religious services in the past week were more likely to say they engaged in the behavior than those who did not attend.
