College Board Initiates Distinguished Alumni and Service Awards

The Board of Visitors of the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy voted to initiate awards to recognize and honor alumni and friends of the college for their support for the University of Oklahoma, and service to the industry and community. A process for the selection of the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Service Award was approved at the April, 2008 meeting of the Board of Visitors.

The faculty, staff and alumni nominated candidates to receive the first Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy Distinguished Alumni and Service awards. Any individual or entity who has rendered meritorious service to the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy was eligible. Awards will be granted in even numbered years, beginning in 2008.

Distinguished Service Award recipients are chosen based on their past or ongoing involvement with the college, which may be in the form of:
  • Classroom speaking
  • Advisory board membership
  • Student mentoring/internships/hiring
  • Other classroom or college advocacy
  • Financial contributions
  • Support of student activities
Distinguished Alumni Award recipients are chosen based on their past or ongoing involvement with the college, which may be in the form of:
  • Recognition for academic, scientific, or practical contributions in their chosen field
  • Achievements in business
  • Ongoing involvement with the college

These individuals will be honored at a dinner in Norman, Oklahoma on Friday, November 21, 2008. Please help us in congratulating these men and their families for receiving the inaugural Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy Distinguished Alumni and Service awards.
