"It
is difficult to narrow down my many
great memories of Phi Delta Theta. One
of my great memories was my initiation,"
says Chris Hill, Washburn '94,
Nu North Province President. "I
remember signing The Bond and realizing
what I was now and forever a part of.
Since graduation, I have continued to
have great experiences and memories
- from serving as a faculty member at
the Emerging Leaders Institute and Presidents
Leadership College, to my selection
by the General Council to the position
of Province President. As an undergraduate
I always hoped that one day I would
have the opportunity to hold the province
president position."
Not only does Brother Hill serve in
an important role for Phi Delta Theta,
he also plays an integral role in the

United States Air Force.
Having achieved the rank of Captain, Hill
is the Community Relations Manager and Public
Affairs Officer stationed at Forbes Field,
an Air National Guard Base near Topeka, Kansas.
After serving in the Air National Guard for
11 years, Capt. Hill was recognized as a Distinguished
Graduate from the Academy of Military Science
in 2000. As Nu North Province president, Hill
provides support to undergraduate chapters
and alumni throughout central and southern
Kansas.
Brother Hill's military career started during
his undergraduate days at Washburn University
in Topeka, Kansas, "I had missed the
first few weeks of the semester due to basic
and technical training. So getting to college
and acquainting myself with a group of guys
who would become some of my best friends,
to this day, is a memory that I will never
forget."
Hill values his opportunity to volunteer with
Phi Delta Theta, "The words of founding
father Robert Morrison are spoken often, but
not practiced nearly enough - 'to do what
ought to be done, but would not have been
done unless I did it.' This simple statement
by our founder speaks volumes to me. I believe
that it is our duty as Phis to do all that
we can to better our Fraternity. I look back
on my undergraduate experience with such great
memories that I want others to have the same
feelings when they think about Phi Delta Theta.
Every time I visit one of the chapters in
my province I leave feeling rejuvenated and
excited about our Fraternity - that feeling
is what keeps me involved."
His involvement in the Fraternity does not
stop as province president. Hill is also a
donor to the Phi Delta Theta Educational Foundation.
"The Foundation does so much good for
the men of our Fraternity. The things that
most people think about are the scholarships
that are awarded, but many may not be aware
of the educational programming that is made
possible by the Foundation. Things like the
Presidents Leadership College, Emerging Leaders
Institute (formerly Leadership College), and
Leadership Consultants, just to name a few,
are what continues to build the kind of men
the founders of our Fraternity expected. Our
founders expected that our members would uphold
the cardinal principles that they envisioned
when the turned their idea of a society built
on principles of friendship, scholarship,
and moral rectitude into a reality. Our foundation
facilitates that dream every day." |
