Got a Case of Spring Fever?

Spring is the time of year that finds most of us itching to hit the road and get out of town. Be it spring break trips with the family or early summer vacations, thousands of drivers take to the road each year in anticipation of a memorable trip. To make certain you arrive at your destination safe and sound, follow these simple driving tips.

Check your car’s tire pressure and fill up the gas tank before making a road trip. Try to keep your gas tank at least one quarter full.
Always keep a safety kit in your car. It could include flares, water, a blanket, tire gauge, air compressor, tire patch and jumper cables.
Have a way to get help in case of emergency, such as a cell phone, an auto club membership or in-car assistance (i.e. OnStarTM).
Obey traffic laws. Avoid speeding, especially during peak travel season/holiday weekends and during inclement weather.
Be aware of your surroundings. Keep an eye on the road in front of and behind you.
When driving, if you’re tired, pull over to a rest stop and take at least a 20 minute nap. Turning up the radio, rolling down the window or singing out loud will not keep you awake.

Taking a road trip to your favorite summer destination needn't be a hassle. Just follow these auto safety tips, and the only thing you'll need to worry about is how to fit all your souvenirs into your luggage for the drive home.
