If We'd Only Known
What percentage of alumni have
named the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation in their estate plans but don’t tell us they’ve done so until it’s too late? Any idea?
We don’t know either. But we wish we did.

you about your decision to support the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation through your estate plan. We regret not having the opportunity to do so with many of our alumni that we never had the chance to meet personally.
Recently, the Foundation unexpectedly received a six-figure unrestricted gift from a donor’s estate. Unfortunately, we had no previous notation of the gift, so it took us by surprise. When this occurs, we do our best to make a decision for the donor based on what we can only assume would be his desires for his gift. Would he want to support his chapter? A specific educational program? A scholarship? Does his wife know about his affiliation with Sigma Nu, and does she know what his wishes were? If we’d only known before he was gone. We would have loved to have built a better relationship with the donor and his family so that we could be sure we were using his contribution for something that would make him proud.
If you’re one of those donors who havn’t let us know about your planned gift, consider this: if we’d only known that we were important enough to be included in your estate plan…
…we would have enjoyed having a dialogue with you about the passions and interests you have that motivated your decision to make such a contribution;
…we would have involved you in determining the best use of your gift to meet your intentions;
…we would have wanted you to know today how your decision would benefit tomorrow’s members of Sigma Nu;
…we would have invited you to join the Yates Society alongside other donors who share your dream of providing long-term support for Sigma Nu.
Since modern-day conveniences make it easy and affordable for our staff to travel frequently, meeting many donors on one visit to a specific area, it would be our pleasure to meet with you to discuss all the ways Sigma Nu wants to be a good steward of your planned gift.
