When Christ returns, He tells us He will reward those who loved and served Him.  "Come," He will say, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me . . . [for] whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" (Matt. 25:34–40).

While the spiritual condition of our hearts is of eternal importance, God also cares deeply about our physical and emotional needs.  That’s why so many SIM ministries have both physical and spiritual facets.  In everything we do, we want to emulate the heart of Christ!

For more than three years, Ben and Gerlinde Skaggs have been in the thoughts and prayers of all of us here at SIM and of many of you as well.  As you may recall from past issues of Harvest, Gerlinde Skaggs suffered a devastating head injury in a fall from her bicycle May 28, 2005.

There were many points thereafter where her life hung in the balance and where repeated seizures and other complications threatened her recovery.  Yet through all the struggles, almost everyone who saw
her remarked about her grand smile and snappy blue eyes that danced with the love of Christ.

Today, in answer to thousands of prayers for complete recovery, not only Gerlinde’s eyes, but now also her whole being is dancing--for on March 16, 2008, Gerlinde went home to be with the Lord she loved so deeply.

While her graduation to heaven brings great sorrow and loss to all those who knew and loved her, there is also great joy in the knowledge that she is finally free from the suffering she has endured for the last three years.  Please continue to pray for Gerlinde’s husband, Ben, and for their family and friends as they go through this difficult time.
